So I posted this image on FB, and it seemed a lot of people really liked MrsZtp’s idea. I figured, “why not share the idea with oppo too, just in case someone really likes it as well”.

MrsZtp took a small mason jar and filled it with raisins, peanuts, flavored peanuts, shelled sunflower seeds, pieces of dry banana, etc. it’s ideal for lunches and whatnot. And that’s it, nothing crazy special.

It’s good for lunches, and the jar means it’s re-usable. We try hard not to use disposable containers (like ziplock bags), because you end up throwing them out; which is a waste imho.

It’s like healthy potpourri.

A glass jar makes a handy weapon to fling at an attacker!

But seriously, this is a good idea. I will be making my own trail mix this weekend.

That sounds tastey and A LOT less salty than the store bought kind. That is always my problem with the packaged trail mix, all I taste is salt. Another thing I have found that is really good for a hiking snack is a ball of peanut butter rolled in some toasted oats and then frozen. I just call those granola balls and never really followed a recipe. Quite filling though thanks to the giant glob of peanut butter in the middle.

Except edible, which makes it better than potpourri.

Peanut butter is gift from God. That’s a fact.

Will have to try your recipe though, :).

This is the same reason I make my own oat/granola bars. I just made a batch this weekend, oats, fresh blueberries, honey, coconut oil, almond butter and some seasoning (nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.) bake them to the firmness you want and then I freeze them to keep them long enough.

~190-200 calories per bar and if I add almonds or other nuts/protein I can use them as meals on the go.

So much cheaper, much less sodium and I know what is in them.

That’s probably the number one reason I couldn’t live in Europe. Peanut butter just isn’t a thing over there. Sure healthcare is nice, but peanut butter!

Also, some honey mixed in with the PB and chocolate chips mixed in with the oats works really well. I think I have thrown random nuts in there too but I usually use chunky peanut butter so the nuts are not needed.
